Off we drove to Glenfinnan where the Jacobite Express (aka the Harry Potter train) crosses the viaduct. This was its first run in ages and so about 500 others had the same idea. We all splashed along the path and stood in the rain, cameras at the ready. It came, it tooted, it chuffed.
As we returned to the visitors centre the sun came out so we climbed the nearby hill to photograph the glen.
We had decided that driving to Skye via the bridge was a safer option than the Mallaigh ferry. The first stop of many was the Commando Monument. It was very well done and was ringed by snow-capped mountains. The highest of them, Ben Bullen, was invisible behind cloud.
The route diverted towards Kyle of Lochalsh through an astounding landscape of mountains, glens, rushing rivers, waterfalls and snow. It was bitterly cold but we were finally blessed with patches of sunshine.
We stopped numerous times and once we walked down to the loch.
I took a photo through the windscreen too.
At Eilean Donan Castle we decided not to explore further when it began to hail!
Once we crossed the bridge to Skye the scenery was no less spectacular but we have a few days to explore it.
