The day began with some gift shopping in the local
shops.
We saw the Dendra panoply in the
little local museum and then drove to Epidauros to see the famous theatre
there.
Great place ... you could here everything Leon whispered from below. Picnicked and then off to Mycenae. I drove and it was a mistake. I became exhausted and we lost ourselves trying to take a shortcut in little villages.
Anyway, Mycenae was quite good...
I rambled all
over the deserted site, found the tunnel to the well, the sally port and a
sherd of a giant jar. From the megaron
we looked out over the broad valley below and the sun chose that moment to
break through the cloud cover and form a pyramid of light ... magical.

We’d met a couple
called Jim and Vicky at Epidauros and they had recommended the hotel where they
were staying in Nafplion. We booked in and enjoyed the view that night of the
Venetian fortress island lit by lights in the bay.
