This is Oban. Today we drove from Melrose to here and had fun exploring along the way.
It was a couple of hours before things became interesting because first we had to drive the motorways around and through Edinburgh and Glasgow. Eventually we reached Loch Lomond where we chose a one hour cruise on the lake. The weather was kind so we had a relaxing look at this spot where the Lowlands meet the Highlands. (Is that the point of the song?)
After that we had a spectacular drive up the west side of Loch Lomond and then past various Bens (with snow on top) and lochs, until we stopped at the Falls of Fallon.
Next stop was the improbable St Conan's Kirk. This stunning place was built on the shores of Loch Awe. It looks old but it's really an early 20th Century fantasy project which just works. However, it does have a finger bone of Robert the Bruce to give it some gravitas.
We reached Oban and hurried to the docks to book our guided tour to Mull. Seems the tour has been cancelled (due to rough seas) for the last week and the next two days look no better. Never mind. We are resourceful.
