Just one more adventure

This place has a poor shower and an uncomfortable bed. It is also cold. This triumvirate made us feel flat this morning.  Then the funicular at Cairngorm mountain was out of action, so all we got was a view from the carpark.

We did a short and pretty walk after some hassle finding a place to pay to park.

Emboldened by this minor success Lyn settled on a drive to a sculpture walk. We found the place only to discover it had been closed. (Fallen trees?) It was clearly that sort of day.

I decided to drive back to Aviemore via a different route. We were meandering down a minor road through the Inch swamps. Suddenly an improbable mound with stone ruins appeared. This was Ruthven Barracks, left over from the time when redcoats and dragoons were needed to watch over the glen. The views were good too.

I commented that at least the day had improved a little. Lyn said she felt there would be at least one more adventure. Sure enough we arrived in the village of Kingussie to see a weird sporting event in preparation.  As the teams ran on a local lady explained that the game was shinty. This is basically hockey without rules. We were thoroughly entertained for a half of shinty.

The day ended with a visit to the prosperous town of Grantown-on-Spey where Lyn went to mass and I went to the pub.
