Fish Ladders to Galway Girl

In Pitlochry we walked towards the dam. On the way we saw a rather beautiful railway carriage being renovated. Lyn, of course, got talking to a nice man who explained that Tom Cruise had once run atop the carriage but that, once the movie was done, a local had bought it to convert it into a restaurant.

Further on we found the dam with its fish ladder for the salmon.

Enraptured,  Lyn is now a salmon enthusiast. Walking downstream, we paused to watch the local fly fishermen working to no avail. We saw two mighty splashes so salmon were there alright. Walking back upriver to our car, Lyn finally got British History from James I to 1746 sorted in her head.

Next we drove our last narrow highland road to Queens View. I had my second close encounter. The first was with a bus on Skye. This time it was a garbage truck. The view was worth it.

Then came the drive north to Inverness with stops for lunch supplies. Eventually we reached Culloden Moor. The information centre was rather good and then we walked out onto the battlefield and stood where the doomed highland charge was crushed.

From Culloden we filled the car and returned it to Avis at Inverness Airport. The Nissan did good service.

No taxis or ubers seemed available but a bus to Inverness arrived. We scurried aboard and found our way to our guesthouse.

After Lyn had rationalised our luggage and I had done some washing we went in search of food and drink. The chosen restaurant was not great but then we stumbled onto a pub with folk music which was fun.

We looked at the river and headed home.
