The train in Spain ... to Córdoba

To think I was only planning a day trip to Córdoba. What a mistake that would have been!

We took a taxi to Barcelona Sants, allowing plenty of time to get through airport-like security. From there the 4.5 hour train trip was comfortable. The RENFE fast train cruised along with speeds varying from 225 to 285 kms an hour.

The taxi ride from the Córdoba train station to our luxury hotel was a comical introduction to Cordoba’s old town. Pedestrians had to flatten themselves against the walls to allow us to pass.

We then went in search of sustenance and Cordoba’s famous patio courtyards. We did as many locals were doing and ate a brilliant 3.00 pm lunch. Then continued our stroll.

At Palacio de Viana we admired the 12 courtyard gardens. They not only looked stunning but smelt amazing too, probably because of the heavily fruited century-old orange trees.

An extra delight in the courtyards were young local girls dressed for first communion being professionally photographed.

We walked back to our hotel a different way. This is a city where every little square or shop sign is photogenic.

After a siesta we did a walking tapas tour with a local guide. We learned about local history and saw some amazing hidden corners which I can guarantee we won’t be able to find tomorrow. The final two photos show the cathedral tower tonight and what you look like after a tapas tour.
