We left our shabby grand hotel and caught the Interislander ferry across the Cook Strait from Wellington to Picton.
The crossing was extraordinarily calm and beautiful. We spent much of the time chatting to a caravanning couple from Tauranga.
In Picton we picked up our hire car, shopped at the supermarket. We then drove the scenic route to Havelock. Along the way we made three stops, for the scenery of course.
At Ngakuta Bay, below, we stopped for a picnic and a swim. Lyn made a friend from Christchurch.
At Cullen Point Lyn spotted numerous birds. She is quite the eagle eye. We also wondered what makes the clicking noises in the NZ bush. (Cicadas bashing their wings against branches apparently...)
Below us we could see Havelock, ‘the Green Lip Mussel Capital of the World’!
