Making Hay while the sun shines

This is how a castle should look as you approach it.


It is Carreg Cennen on the edge of the mountains called the Brecon Beacons. At the top of the hill there was a cave occupied by Neolithic people. Iron Age folk shaped it and built a fort. A Welsh prince built a castle and then a Norman English lord built a better one. On the other side a sheer drop into a ravine makes a spectacular view. Slippery uneven stone steps take you down into the bowels of the castle to the ancient cave. In the face of multiple threats to life and limb, Australian authorities would have palpitations. Here, well, there are signs pointing out that if you fall off the cliff you will die... and they offer to hire you a torch for £1.50!














The way to the castle was through a horse paddock where Lyn met one of the new arrivals.


From there we had a tricky drive to a waterfall.

Then it was over the Brecon Beacons to Hay on Wye on the Wales/England border. Our B&B is right on the river Wye. This is the town famous for its bookshops.




As you can see from the photos, the weather remains glorious, and we made Hay while ...
