Bank Holiday madness

After a nap we thought it was time to see the local beauty spots of the Cotswolds. We walked to Tesco’s where our car was parked. There we found this sight. Guess which one is ours.

If you stood by a major road in this part of England long enough you’d see every restored automobile in the country. Today we saw at least 20, all beautiful. There was no special event, it is just the place to drive.

First stop was Bourton on the Water. There were two or three car parks collecting £3 per vehicle. This was the scene.

In town, the tourists, English and foreign, clustered in their thousands on the banks of the stream, on every patch of green or queued for ice cream. It seemed the antithesis of pleasurable but they all seemed happy enough. We fled.

We drove on through Lower Slaughter, another famous village, but it too was packed. Abandoning the obvious, we took a minor road through pretty Lower Swell towards Stow and then drove to Broadway Tower. This is a folly in the form of a castle built in 1800 on the second highest point of the Cotswolds. I climbed the tower, leaving Lyn below. When I returned I found her wondering about the peculiar mini hillocks dotting the green pasture. Then I saw the earth moving! Moles no less. After our Wind in the Willows moment we bought ice cream, enjoyed the views and drove home.
