After 7 largely rain-free days the Ring of Kerry showed us today why much of Ireland is bog. Even so the seascape was spectacular, even if it was more wild grey-green Atlantic than postcard blue.
We visited the iron-age Staigue Fort where I got to do my 'King of the World' pose.
At this point the rain really began to belt down so we headed inland to return to Kenmare by a different route. It was one of those inspired decisions.
The way took us up narrow roads through a landscape of rock and bog and bare mountains with waterfalls appearing on all sides. Great drifts of rain swept it all and we crossed the torrents on ancient stone bridges.
There are no photos, it was too wild.
We had a nap and finished the day in a pub listening to the music, eating burgers and drinking red wine.
