Limerick and Bunratty

By afternoon we were ready for an adventure so we drove into Limerick. Lyn expected another dinky tourist town sprouting shamrocks and flogging Celtic doodads. Instead we found a rather ugly modern city.

We persevered through the traffic because I'd mentioned that I wanted to see the Hunt Museum. This is the old Georgian Customs House which houses a magnificent private collection of art and antiquities. It also had an excellent café for lunch. Even Lyn liked both the museum and the café.
Outside, we admired the mighty Shannon River and King John's Castle. Limerick looked attractive after all.

Then on we drove to Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. (The navigation app took us on a ridiculous detour through suburbia.) The cost of entry was horrendous by Irish standards but inside it was a pleasant surprise. I climbed through the castle, took a selfie at the top, wandered through reconstructed historical peat-smelling dwellings, bought souvenirs and had a jolly good ye olde time.

Ye olde chook pen was a highlight.
