"You've got 10 minutes. Take one photograph and we're getting out of here."
No. This photo was earlier in the day when Lyn wasn't scared into incivility. This is from Bluff Lookout over Napier. Spectacularly, and oddly, it is right above Napier's working port. Lyn gleefully watched logs and containers loaded and unloaded. Presumably the machinery was operated by "nice" men.
Little Miss Sunshine stayed with me through a long shopping expedition in Napier. Wherever we went today I kept noticing Art Deco features. Below was our Art Deco highlight. The building is an art deco masterpiece which hadn't been a part of our tour yesterday. It was just around the corner from our hotel.
Then it was time for our picnic lunch on Te Mata peak. It was one of those roads on which you are protected from instant death by your ability to keep between two white lines. To say Lyn was frazzled is an understatement. She hated driving up the peak. Once at the top the views were stunning but all she could think about was the drive back down. She then made the experience more memorable by demanding constant praise for her bravery when we reached the bottom. Her claims of heroic achievement would have been more convincing if her hands had not still been shaking.
In the evening we walked along the coolified West Quay district, past unloading fishing trawlers, to the estuary.
We finished with drinks and our best pizza since Rome.
Into the wilderness tomorrow, so there may be a couple of days till I blog again.
